Curé of Ars Catholic School, Leawood, Kansas
Product Line: Berliner
The Curé of Ars Catholic School had a deteriorating and increasingly unused playground. Compliance was becoming an issue with old equipment, which in turn required the removal of specific items and reduced the number of children able to play together. The school administration realized that they needed to spruce up their playground to give their students even more options.
The team at ABCreative provided options based upon several criteria:
- variety of activity
- activities appropriate for multiple age groups
- swinging options
- ease of supervision
- durability
- ease of maintenance
It was important to not only create a functional playground but an aesthetically pleasing one as well.
The red Spaceball M, white Mars and red Palmetto Saucer from Berliner were a great combination to help meet these requirements. The spatial nets and design of the two structures provides for easy supervision even with a full group at recess (which can be 80-90 students).
In addition to the play value itself, school staff members noticed the increased socialization and decision-making from the students. With no truly defined “entrance” or “exit” on the Spaceball M or Mars units, it leaves the door open for students to come and go however they choose.
With the Palmetto Saucer, multiple students can swing together, which again emphasizes socialization and interaction among the children.
