Product Lines: Burke, Berliner

The park in Paxico, KS, a small town with a population of around 220, needed play equipment. Located at the entrance on one side of town, the Paxico City Park is one of the first things visitors see.

To fund these changes, the town applied for and was the recipient of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through the Kansas Department of Commerce in the amount of $210,000 for park and sidewalk improvements.

At the end of October, Paxico, KS celebrated its new playground.

Playground Gets Play Equipment

Paxico’s park consisted of a welcome center and a big sign reading Paxico Park; however, there was no play equipment there.

Paxico, KS city parkThe Berliner rope play equipment, used on many playgrounds, was seen as very innovative, something that is very physical, works the muscles and encourages kids to use their imagination.

Blending it with traditional playground equipment from Burke enables kids to experience both types of play, providing the end result the town was looking for.

“The playground has been very busy! It’s in a good location and will remain busy, too,” said City Council member Dan Wagner.

With limited resources, the CDBG grant was critical to giving the town a playground that will now make a great impression on visitors coming to the town.

The ABCreative Experience

Karen was very willing to come out anytime and meet with us, walk us through things. Her availability was instrumental in the process. Our engineer wasn’t used to grants like this, especially the bid process, and Karen helped him through the process, not knowing whether ABCreative would win the bid. Karen was easy to work with and stayed in contact with us throughout the process.
