Featured in this project:
ABCreative’s ability to do turn-key projects along with products from: Burke Play Equipment, Burke Site Amenities and Playground Grass Ultra Turf.

Why was ABCreative chosen for the project?

We understood the vision the owners and management had for what this interior courtyard space could be to provide families a common area for recreation.

Project overview and highlights.

The management sat down with ABCreative and explained the challenges of this space. The main issue was poor drainage which turned the existing play area into muddy mess every time it rained. The goal was to eliminate the drainage problem and the assumption was this would require replacing the existing play equipment.

After inspecting the play equipment and finding no serious non-compliance issues, we discussed options for the space including surfacing materials. It was decided to keep the main play structure in tact but remove some of the older broken down equipment. The play equipment use zone was consolidated to lessen the cost of safety surfacing and to open up more area for free play and gathering space. At the same time, the swing area was expanded from a two person older swing model to a four person Burke arch swing and we added a new spinning play component.

The new Playground Grass Ultra unitary surfacing was the perfect choice for this project. The Ultra offers a antimicrobial backing and also antimicrobial grass blades developed by DuPont specifically for Playground Grass. Ultra also has an X-static in the blades to eliminate static shock on the playground. All Playground Grass products have an eight year warranty and a two year installation warranty.

Additional drains and a layout for concrete plaza area was laid out for both sides of the play area. Existing tables and benches that were in good condition were carefully removed and relocated in the new layout. Additional Burke Amenities including tables, benches, litter containers and grills were added.

The finishing touch was hopscotch and 4-square games in the open plaza space.

The entire project including demolition and removal of existing equipment and mulch surfacing; new drainage; grading and installation of new equipment; concrete forming and installation; Playground Grass installation and final furnishing placement took just three weeks.
