Girls Inc., Omaha, NE
Product Lines: Berliner, Playground Grass
In May, Girls Inc. of Omaha, NE, celebrated the completion of its expanded facility, a 55,000-square foot addition, The Katherine Fletcher Center.
Part of this expansion included updating the playground.
Rope Play Equipment for the Girls
Landscape architect, Big Muddy, learned about Berliner rope play equipment and thought it fit well for this playground project. We worked with them to select three pre-designed structures from Berliner’s Terranos line that fit together beautifully in the design – a Spaceball with attached slide, saucer swings and netscape with a wobbly bridge, providing kids with plenty of opportunity for climbing, crawling and balancing fun.
Synthetic Grass Over Poured-in-Place Surfacing
The natural feel of Playground Grass Ultra by ForeverLawn complemented the structures, giving the playground a more realistic look than a poured-in-place surface. Plus, Playground Grass has:
- Patented, exclusive antimicrobial technology
- Anti-static technology in the blades
- 10-year warranty
- Certified up to 13’ critical fall height
Girls Inc. Helps Girls in Need
More than 103,000 people in the Omaha metro area live in poverty, and of those, 38,000 are children, according to data from the United Way of the Midlands and U.S. Census.
Most of the girls served by Omaha’s program come from low-income, single-parent households, according to Girls Inc. Only about 25% have two parents at home, and a substantial percentage are in foster care.
